New Tesla Model Y Juniper.
Getting your hands on the new Model Y Long Range AWD Launch series comes at a cost. But the current Y is still available and cheaper than ever.
The new Model Y (aka “Juniper”) is now available for order in the U.S. but the current Model Y will stick around for a while. And that’s good because it’s a lot cheaper.
Current (non-Juniper) Model Y comes with hefty discounts.
New vs. current model Y price:
- New AWD Model Y (Juniper): $61,630 before federal tax credit and $54,130 with the credit (before taxes and fees). Deliveries begin in March.
- Current AWD Model Y : $46,490 (starting inventory price) before federal tax credit and $38,990 with the credit (before taxes and fees).
- Current RWD Model Y : $43,640 (starting inventory price) before federal tax credit and $36,140 with the credit (before taxes and fees).
Note that the only version of the new Juniper Model Y available for order is the All-Wheel Drive Launch edition. Of course that won’t be the only version available going forward as Tesla traditionally offers three trims: Rear-Wheel Drive, All-Wheel Drive, and Performance. But those are not available yet. The Juniper Model Y Launch edition comes fully loaded (thus the high price) with standard features:
- Full Self Driving (an $8,000 value, included)
- Tow package (a $3,500 value, included)
- Choice of any wheels (up to $2,000 value, included)
- Choice of any paint color (up to $2,000 value, included)
- Choice of any interior color (up to $1,000 value, included)
Below is a chart provided by Tesla. Note that lower price is due to the fact that Tesla includes both $6,000 in gas savings estimated over five years and the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit.

Model Y Juniper improvements
Juniper boasts a host of improvements (as shown above) over the current version such as a rear entertainment screen, improved seats, “second-generation” suspension and “second-generation” noise reduction, front-facing camera, 15 speakers on AWD (vs 13 speakers in previous model).
Current (non-Juniper) Model Y discounts — up to $3,500
The price cited above for the current Model Y is a Rear-Wheel Drive trim in inventory with a “price adjustment.” Many of the Model Ys in inventory come with a price adjustment, aka discount. For example, the price of the RWD Y cited at top comes with a $1,350 discount. The inventory AWD Model Y is offered with discounts up to $3,500.
